Spider's Den products are made from an unique double-layer leather construction. A top layer of choice top grain leather is permanently bonded to a lower layer of tough silicon-rubber treated leather. This results in a leather composite with a thickness exceeding 1/8 of an inch, equivalent to a superior strength 10 to 12 oz leather .
Since the inner silicon-rubber treated leather has an increased wear-life versus other leather, the products maintain their durability and strength longer than products with equivalent leather thickness. This allows the products to maintain their overall shape, whether empty or fully loaded, for many, many riding seasons. Unlike some other saddlebags, which will completely lose their form, these bags will retain their general shape and continuity and not turn into 'play doh' bags after a year or two. |

Another benefit (aside from superior strength) is that fact that Spider's Den products don't require expensive, cumbersome inner brackets. Aside from keeping lesser quality-made bags from sagging, inner brackets can catch on clothing and other items you place inside.
Super Back Reinforcement Will Add to the Strength & Help to Retain it Shape even MORE! To increase the bag's wear and to prevent the back from warping, we have reinforced the backs with plastic. Every bag's back is sandwiched, inside and out, with a heavy 1/8" (over 3mm) thick plastic plate. The outside plate covers the majority of the back, up to the triple-layer leather which starts the saddlebag flap. A larger inside plate covers the entire inside of the bag; the two sides sandwich a thick silicon-impregnated leather and are joined by multiple Chicago screws. This results in a thickness of nearly a HALF INCH !
